Hi, I just read the above where the position of the article suggests that nutrition plays an important role in hip dysplasia We now know that the environment also play a key role. Therefore, if a dog comes from parents and grandparent that are good or excellent and receives a mild on one hip, and all other tests (i.e. elbows, pro, etc, DM, CNM, Hpnk etc) why would you take such a bitch out of a breeding program. THat is contrary to the evidence above that dysplasia is more likely related to environmental factors and nutrition. MY mentor is one of the most successful breeders in the country if not the world and once told me, Its very easy to use the results of tests only to decide if an animal should be in a breeding program, however, ,breeding is an art and science. I agree with this 100%. We are puling so many animals from the gene pool these days for something like a one sided mild hip dysplasia or a carrier of PRA or EIC because you want a program free of these issues by parentage.

No... you absolutely would not want to do that. Any lab that will breed should have a passing hip clearance from the OFA.
